Soothing Relaxation is a project started by the Norwegian composer Peder B. Helland. What is the story behind the project and my work? Read on to learn more about Soothing Relaxation.
Hi! My name is Peder B. Helland. I have been very interested in film music from an early age. When I realized it was possible to make your own film music with only a computer and keyboard, I was astonished. It was actually possible to make your own melodies and make them sound good on your computer? I was sold - I had to get the necessary equipment to do so.
I discovered this a few years after I had received my very own keyboard as a gift from my parents. This keyboard had the option to record multiple layers of sounds and melodies on top of each other, and I had already started to fiddle around with this and sharing my melodies on YouTube. Luckily I had taken some piano lessons when I was younger and I had a pretty good understanding of music theory, also due to the fact that I was playing trombone in a marching band.
I quickly fell in love in the process of coming up with ideas and creating your own melodies and soundscapes. The piano became a big part of my life and the perfect creative outlet. I loved to make short films that I sometimes shared on YouTube and I enjoyed making the music for them. Among other things, I made stop-motion videos using Legos and added my own music to it.
After several years of sharing my own music and music covers I made, a few people somehow started to find my channel and music. At this point of time I was experimenting with a lot of different genres, including Halloween music, relaxing music, ethnic inspired music and even a few attempts at party music (I am sorry if you heard those).
I gradually realized that the listeners on my channel were interested in different parts of my music. Some of them only wanted Halloween music and some of them visited my channel for relaxing music. It was at this point I decided to create two separate channels on YouTube: Soothing Relaxation and Instrumental Halloween Music (formerly called Dark Music World). Soothing Relaxation was born.
I started to get more and more interested in the kind of music I made for Soothing Relaxation. In many ways I found it to be therapeutic to make relaxing music. It was a great way to calm down after a long day and I felt great making it. I also found it interesting experimenting with what kind of sounds were relaxing and not. At the same time more and more people were finding Soothing Relaxation and leaving comments of appreciation.
It was a never an abrupt switch, and I am still making other genres of music to this day, but during the last couple of years I have devoted a lot of time making soothing music and videos. I still love it and I think this must be one of the best jobs in the world. Yes, Soothing Relaxation and composing music is my job. Growing up I was always interested in music production, but I never had the faintest idea that one day I would be able to compose music for a living. I just looked at it as a hobby that I loved doing after school and studies.
A lot of things have happened since then and Soothing Relaxation is not only a YouTube channel now. It's also a company with its own website and products. To be clear, it's still only me here but my family helps out with some tasks behind the scene.
I want Soothing Relaxation's website to be as good and flexible as it can be. In addition to being able to purchase all music albums and many of my single tracks, you can often choose alternative versions on the product page. For instance, you can choose if you want a version with or without bird sounds when you purchase Sunny Mornings from the store.
If you are interested in licensing my music for a creative project, I am making a big selection of my music available for easy licensing. You can also find sheet music for my music available on the website.
Thank you very much for reading and for supporting Soothing Relaxation. I am continually trying to improve my musical work, so I'd love to get your honest feedback. Feel free to leave comments on social media or send me an email. I hope to see you here on Soothing Relaxation in the future as well!
